If you would have asked me six months ago where I wanted to work after my MHA program, I would have responded without any hesitation, a large for profit hospital. Since starting school, my eyes have been opened to a different side of health care. I have been exposed to ideas about public health, providing medical care for low income and medically underserved populations. The more I learn about non-profits and government hospitals, I realize their missions are in harmony with why I decided to get into health care. It is about taking care of people. This past Friday, my class went to Centro Med clinic. It is situated in a low income area of the city and provides comprehensive care for anyone who walks in the door. Repayment is based on a patient's ability to pay, and a lot of their costs are covered by government grants. In exchange for grants, they are required to meet specific quality measures. I count myself lucky to be at a program that has opened my minds to new ideas and directions for me to take.
