Every time I had an exam in undergrad, I always thought to myself, wouldn't this be so much easier if I spent half an hour after each class just reviewing what we went over in class? Despite making a resolution to do that, even now in grad school I have the same thought. What is keeping me from doing that. It is that need to "relax" after class. I have once again determined to review after each class to make sure I understand what I learned.
Well so far I have taken two midterms, finance and stats, and I have two more this week, institutional management and policy. Finance wasn't too difficult, but had some very detailed questions. I realized one mistake...when a professor rarely does examples in class, pay attention to the ones he does share. There will usually be one on the test very similar to the examples in class. Stats went well. My class was dreading that test, so I tried to maintain a positive attitude about it, hoping to be contagious, and I think in the process I may have annoyed a few people! My intention was not to make me look smarter, I simply wanted people to realize the exam was not going to be a life or death situation. It was a really long test though. About 2/3 of the way through the test, I felt dizzy from staring at that excel spreadsheet.
As for this week, management really will not be too bad, it is a test full of case studies, I just need to make sure I really understand how the principles we have discussed in class apply to new situations. Luckily, my professor prefers us to make bullet lists rather than long paragraphs. My policy exam will be lots of writing based on lots of reading. My writing ability has really improved since I have been at grad school, which I appreciate.
Well back to studying, no more procrastinating.
Here is a video to help you think about how much you procrastinate...
